One day, I was people watching at a mall food court and I wondered why a certain group of people could eat whatever they wanted and still they were able remain in good shape and appear healthy and able-bodied while I sat at my table eating diet restricted food that was somewhat safe to eat because I was in such poor health. It remained a mystery to me.
I reasoned that these people were lucky or maybe jokingly I thought that they were not really from our solar system. Maybe these visitors were from an unknown galaxy, sent here on a secret mission to study and observe people like me on Planet Earth and take back their findings to their leader. Did that thought make you chuckle? I hope it did (It was my intention and to set the overall vibe and theme for this particular blog).
More rational thoughts came to my mind. One of which was, maybe the people that I observed were athletes and/or exercised at the gym on a regular basis. Or my second thought was, maybe the mall goers led a very physically active lifestyle, always on the move. Whatever it was that was allowing them to eat whatever they wanted, I was bound to fit the pieces of the puzzle together.
Not until I later discovered the health benefits of something that is so innately natural to us, and yet when it is joyfully belted out so easily especially when shared amongst like minded people in social group settings, I was able to finally figure out why certain groups in the mall food court were able to eat mall food and still look fit and fulfilled.
Researchers and doctors alike report the key to health is having less stress. So how do you reduce stress? Do we take certain supplements or drink a certain tea to calm down? Some people, due to their lack of ability to manage stress, may choose to use more toxic short term so called "remedies" to reduce stress. But every toxic stress reliever always comes with side effects or major life changing consequences and the habit can be detrimentally costly. So how can we remain stress free for free of charge you ask?
Most of us do not realize that the simple act laughing is in fact a life changer and door opener to remaining happy, disease and illness free, and slim.
Yes! It is true what they say: "Laughter is the best medicine". But what if I do not feel like laughing. Well experts say, "Fake it until you make it" meaning belt out fake laughter until real laughter is created within you becoming natural laughter.
Let's explore 3 health benefits of Laughter shall we?
1. It Reduces Stress
Negative Emotions can result from stress. These emotions can disrupt the healthy state of your body. Stressful emotions can trigger a lowered immune system which then makes it difficult for your immune system to fight off any foreign invaders in your body that cause disease and illness. So managing these negative emotions with daily laugh sessions (especially with loved ones involved) will help your immune system to strengthen and build so it can help you to avoid further pain etc.
*2. It Reduces Pain
Researchers say that laughing can help reduce pain for up to 45 minutes after a laughing session. This is due to the fact that the act of laughing triggers endorphins, "feel good" hormones. These feel good hormones act like natural painkillers. This is great for someone who suffers from chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia.
3. It Helps Tone Your Abs
Have problems with digestion? Laughing relaxes your muscles fostering healthy digestion. A sign of poor digestion is bloating of or an extended stomach. Laughing helps to assist you in toning your abs and keeping a flatter tummy. Want to learn a little more about digestion? Connect with Laughter
Certain groups of people suffer from stress more than other people and are in an extreme anxiety prone physical and mental state--fight or flight syndrome. The way we can heal is through healthy relationships, healthy stress coping skills, healthy diet and nutrition education and practice, laughter, having a sense of community, laughing with like minded people who you can trust and interact with on a regular basis. Given adequate time, about 6 months to a year (possibly more) you will be able to return to your old self and able to enjoy the old foods you used to love (in moderation of course).
